Who We Are
ASDPN International is a Pan-African organization with a global reach. The Organization which is the first of its kind spans the African continent covering all major sub-regions that is Central Africa, North Africa, East Africa, West Africa and South Africa. Its reach even extends beyond the shores of Africa. ASDPN International was officially launched in Cameroons capital city Yaoundé during the ACPC (African Climate Policy Center) Media Training on use of Climate Information Services in Development Planning.

ASDPN is an active Pan-African development tool that campaigns relentlessly for a continent where development decisions are no longer based on assumptions but are rather evidence based. We are independent of any political ideology, economic interest or religious leaning.
ASDPN International works to make sure that Science, Diplomacy and Policy are at all times the bases of all development initiatives in Africa both at community and sub-regional levels thus ensuring a steady and consistent pursuit of sustainability. In this light ASDPN International constantly strives to bridge the gap between science, diplomacy and policy by ensuring that they constantly move in tandem at all times and across all spheres of development.
Our network is thus very influential in grass root community engagement, driving research towards the needs of indigenous communities across Africa and addressing these challenges according to the degree of urgency over space and time.
ASDPN’s activities include promotion of science, technology and early uptake of negotiation skills among African communities and groups, policy development, debate and guidance, protecting and advocating for the rights of communities to make their own development choices based on degree of need, fast tracking Sustainable Development in Africa through science and tactful diplomatic engagements, and ensure ASDPN policies works to shape Africa’s transformation by supporting a growth path that addresses the vulnerabilities that impact on people’s lives.
Membership
ASDPN has as members scientists/scientific groupings and diplomats that have a deep experience of science diplomacy and/or who are currently contributing to diplomatic discussions as well as experts of other backgrounds who are contributing knowledge in crafting policies for Africa’s development.
Target Population
ASDPN targets all major groups as defined under Agenda 21 of the Earth Summit that is Children, Youths, and Women, the Scientific and Technology community, Non-Governmental Organizations, Workers, Trade Unions, Farmers, Indigenous People and their Communities, in addition to State Institutions.
Method of Operation
ASDPN is a team of passionate and patriotic volunteers working across the globe to advance simple scientific solutions and policies for the development of their communities and nations. ASDPN is also a partner with Civil Society Organizations (CSO’s), Governments and Academic Institutions.
Objectives
General
To contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals through strengthening the interplay of science and policy for an emergent African continent.
Specific

Seek to identify and strengthen scientists who play a significant role in their various fields of discipline by supporting in any capable manner their capacity building and facilitating collaborative efforts that assist in research and development so as to enhance scientific knowledge that is required to inform policy at national, regional and international levels.

In conjunction with other likeminded institutions’ will seek to develop strong linkages between scientists, diplomats and policy makers across countries/regions in the continent in cooperation, collaboration and information sharing to enhance scientific knowledge and capacity required for science interactions towards sustainable development.

Promote the uptake of science and diplomacy for sustainable development among the African youth in the very early stages of education in a bid to sustainably build the next generation of African scientists and diplomats who understand the realities of the continent, the key role of the interactions of science, policy and diplomacy and the need for development of negotiation skills.

Engage youth, local communities and others partner in related sectors through special training activities where youths and indigenous communities will learn how to develop their team and lead their own social projects based on scientific evidence so as to address region’s contexts, priorities and needs.
